A panel of my work truck floor just... Bent outwords? I guess the heavy diesel vibrations caused a weld to break (along with some rivets) and various internal forces in the metal caused it to bend in such a weird way. The panel is not thin either... My 200lb self exerting maximum force couldn’t pull the panel up—or down—even an inch.
It was rattling against the exhaust in such a way that people 3 blocks away stopped and stared. If not for my earbuds I would have been completely unable to drive, due to the sheer volume. The joys of a 450k mile vehicle...
Still loving the new gig though. So much so that I switched from 4 days a week to 6.

I wonder if someone tried to pry their way into your truck.

Thar would be pretty ballsy seeing as it happened during my delivery route and I’m never more than twenty feet away.
Does kind of look like that though

Seems like an odd way to break into a truck. But what are the chance s the joint would just fail like that?

Yeah, I can see the margins too. Pretty nice.

Do you have a truck that is “yours” or do they just assign them to routes when it’s time to load the truck?

I want to guess that something like a wire harness or a rope either was attached to, or got caught on, the underside of that panel and then got run over by the tires. I’m not coming up with too many other ways for that much force to be applied to that spot in that direction.

Especially seeing as I leave the doors open lol

In general, a person will stick with the same route, and get the same truck each day. If you know a lot of different routes your value goes up considerably, and that’s where you end up swapping routes daily to help out wherever you’re needed (and getting different trucks).

That makes more sense. I did drive by a new construction site a few minutes before I noticed the sound. Maybe there was something in the road

Update: I ran over a Nokia. I should be thankful that this is the extent of the damage!

Do some routes have inherently better trucks or is it just luck of the draw?

Looks like you got too much danger to manifold

Some people get luckier than others with trucks, for sure. I liked my old truck more as it was a (relatively) quiet gas truck, with a much better backup camera and an easier to use latch on the rear roll door . On the flip side, my new truck has a significantly better turning radius, is narrower for tight maneuvers, and has a more comfortable seat.
As Fedex operates via a c onglomeration of contractor companies working out of the same terminal in *friendly* competition , you see a lack of uniformity that’s quite interesting.

I try to protect my manifold, but sometimes you just have to let them leave the nest, you know?

I saw that. I’ve had the star thing happen occasionally several times over the years. Kinja is an enigma wrapped in a riddle.

Something in the back broke out and escaped. Judging from the damage, it was pretty strong. You’re lucky you’re still alive.

Very interesting. I never really noticed the lack of uniformity but that is probably one of those things you only notice once someone raises the issue. Speaking of quieter trucks - does anyone think that the big brown company purposefully cuts a 1/4 inch out of the the #3 cylinder exhaust manifold gasket? Most of those trucks have a unique hit and miss sound that can be heard blocks away. Must be hard on the operators.
